The Five Tibetan Rites

The Tibetan Rites are a series of simple yoga movements traditionally practiced by Tibetan monks in the Himalayas. In Alma Kids Yoga Stories, each rite becomes a story — embodied through music, imagination, and movement.

Miss Happy Gut & the Spinning Monk

While exploring Planet Earth, Miss Happy Gut meets a Tibetan monk who introduces her to the first of the Tibetan Rites. Together, they explore spinning as a way to feel rhythm, balance, and connection to the natural rotation of the universe.

Intention
Spin in harmony with the rotation of the universe.

Exercise

  • Stand up with your feet slightly apart

  • Stretch your arms out to the sides, palms facing down

  • Gently lower your head

  • Begin to spin — slowly at first, then faster if it feels good

  • Stop when you’re ready and notice how your body feels

Mr Avocado & Pachamama

Mr Avocado travels through the Andes in Peru, where he meets Pachamama, the sacred Mother Earth. Together, they explore grounding, strength, and the quiet power of roots pushing through the soil.

Exercise

  • Lie on your back with your arms resting by your sides

  • Breathe in and lift your legs and head gently off the floor

  • Breathe out as you lower them back down

  • Repeat this movement together 9 times

  • Sit up, breathe in, raise your arms overhead

  • Bring your hands to prayer position and breathe out

Miss Heartful in the Himalayas

Miss Heartful joins the Llama monks on a long journey from Nepal to Tibet. Along the way, she learns from the wind — discovering how to remain both strong and flexible in changing conditions.

  • Sit on your knees with feet hip-width apart

  • Place your hands on the backs of your legs

  • Breathe in, gently drop your head back and open your chest

  • Breathe out, return to an upright position

  • Repeat this movement 9 times

  • Finish by reaching arms overhead, then bringing hands to prayer

Mr Balance Between Chaos & Cosmos

Mr Balance and Nandi the sacred cow travel by river along Maa Ganga toward the city of Kashi — where chaos and cosmos meet. Here, Mr Balance learns to move fluidly between stillness and strength.

Exercise

  • Sit with legs stretched out in front of you

  • Place palms flat on the floor beside your hips

  • Breathe in and press into your hands, lifting hips into a tabletop position

  • Breathe out and return to the seated position

  • Move slowly and smoothly between the two

  • Repeat 6 times (or 9 times if it feels good)

Miss Banana Bones & the Water Priestess

In the rainforests of Bali, Miss Banana Bones meets the Water Priestess. Together, they explore flowing energy and powerful movement inspired by waterfalls and continuous currents.

Exercise

  • Begin in Downward Facing Dog, hands wide and palms pressing into the floor

  • Breathe in, roll forward into Upward Facing Dog

  • Keep the chest open and neck long

  • Breathe out, press back into Downward Facing Dog

  • Repeat this flowing movement 9 times

How to Use the Yoga Stories

Yoga Stories are designed to be flexible and intuitive.
Children can follow the movements closely, move freely, sing along to chants, or simply lie down and listen.

You might use Yoga Stories:

  • As a calm morning ritual

  • During an afternoon reset

  • Before bedtime to unwind

  • Outdoors, in the garden, or on a mat inside

There is no right or wrong way to practice.
The invitation is simply to listen, move, and be present together.
